[...] So we’re brought back to the classic walled-garden vs. open-source argument so readily apparent in the ongoing iOS vs. Android debate. Sure, Apple seems overly restrictive in forbidding people from changing button functionality (well, sometimes), but I would argue that it’s this level of control that allows them to create the most consistent and pleasurable modern operating system experience (be it mobile or desktop). On the other hand, I consistently find myself saying “my app doesn’t do that” whenever I compare different versions of the same app with my Android-owning friends (like Mike here at TBI).
Nice post Mike! I am a current iPhone user and thought I would never sway from it, but lately the Android based phones are looking so appetizing.

My wife is a Sprint customer and snagged the new HTC Evo, basically the Incredibles' twin. And it's pretty darn amazing. After several days of playing with her phone, dare I say it, but my iPhone seems to lack personality. It's so plain. On one hand, being an apple user in general, I know that's Apple thing... usability. And the iPhone has it, but I think that's where it ends. The Android OS is just so much more fun to use!

I have been enjoying my HTC Hero for about 6 months or so.. but I still find that I am jealous of the iPhone. It must be the loyal MAC addict in me. If iPhone is available on the Sprint network in the future I may have a serious conundrum.

I’ve been in the market for a smart phone (my first!) for some time now. I played with a couple of friends’ iPhones when they first came out and really loved the touch interface and the variety of apps. Then another slew of friends picked up Motorola Droids and, once again, I found myself green with envy. Yet I waited, wrestling with the knowledge that the next best thing is always 3 or 4 months away from being released.
